About Us
Parkdale Pantry is a grassroots food rescue initiative based in Melbourne’s southeast. We save over 200,000kg of food from going to landfill every year, redistributing it to the local community through free markets, outdoor pantries, swaps, and other creative ways. We believe food is meant to be shared, not wasted.
What started as a small neighbourhood project in 2021 has grown into a vibrant volunteer powered movement, with over 100 people contributing their time, skills and care. Our work brings together people of all backgrounds to connect, reduce waste, and support each other with kindness and respect.
A message from our founder
Community was woven into everyday life when I was growing up — my parents always made time to give back, and that set the standard for me early on. We were also a hospitality family, so I became acutely aware of just how much good food was constantly going to waste.
I always knew I wanted to make a difference, but it took a long time to find the confidence to branch out and take the risk. Parkdale Pantry began as a small idea, but like all good things, the right people found us. They believed in the mission and jumped in to help it grow.
